Warrender Baths Club is run by a voluntary Management Committee and a committed team of coaches, headed by Head Coach Laurel Bailey. The Club cannot survive without parent volunteers who give their time to support the swimmers. Split amongst many, the roles only need to take a little of your time.
The majority of parents have never swum competitively themselves. Too many parents genuinely regret staying on the sidelines for the first few years and only step forward for timekeeping, judging etc when their swimmer is 12/13 years of age. At this stage it could be getting too late.
How can I help
The most important roles are Timekeepers & Judges, a squad of 20 swimmers ideally needs 10 parents to step forward as a Timekeeper. There’s no need for anyone to feel left out, there are plenty of other roles ranging from baking cakes to sqaud administrator. Every parent can help in some way.
How do I become a Timekeeper
To train as a Timekeeper requires about 2 hours of your time, to attend a training session. From then on your training occurs poolside, when your kids are swimming. The chances are you would be sitting poolside anyway so it doesn’t tend to eat into your spare time. The best place to start timekeeping is at our monthly Development meets.
Anyone interested in attending the Timekeepers course should email Warrender’s Richard Saunders. He’ll then get in touch with dates & times of the upcoming courses.
Further information on timekeeping/judging can be found at Scottish Swimming
How do I become a Judge
If you are already a Timekeeper and want to consider the Turn Judge role, then get your name added to the waiting list for the next course, also via Howard.
If anyone that wants to try out Turn Judging at the Development meets just let Richard know and he’ll try and sort it, if there are enough Timekeepers.
Other Roles
We appreciate that being a Timekeeper or a Judge is not for everyone. There are plenty of other ways to help, ranging from formal committee positions to selling raffle tickets for competitions. It’s a great way to meet other parents & support the club at the same time.
If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity then please contact our President Jeremy Chittleburgh.
